Varsity Sh*t Talker - Funny Sarcastic Smack Talk Shirt

Four seasons of pickup basketball, two fantasy leagues and one very tense family board game night, and not a single point to show for any of it. The commentary, though, has been all-conference since eighth grade. Every group has one: the friend who calls the airball before it leaves the shooter's hand, keeps a running count of dropped passes and wins every argument on the drive home. A funny trash talk shirt, and a fair gag gift from the teammates who have heard all of it. The jump shot never developed. The mouth went pro years ago.
THE FINE PRINT
One golden-yellow ink, specked and cracked. VARSITY SH*T TALKER arches across the top in tall athletic block capitals, the asterisk printed. Below it, a big S and T overlap, each letter double-outlined and filled with a pebbled chenille texture, four short bars stacked to their right. 4-YEAR LETTERMAN is cut out of a solid bar along the bottom.

Why do people trash talk?
Mostly to rattle the other side and to fire themselves up. It often backfires: a 2018 study by researchers at Georgetown and Wharton found that people on the receiving end of trash talk tried harder on effort tasks. Some of us have read that study and kept talking anyway.
How do you earn a varsity letter in high school?
Each school and coach sets the bar, but it usually means playing a set share of varsity games, meets or matches, finishing the season on the roster in good standing, and sometimes meeting attendance or grade rules. Nobody awards one for the commentary from the end of the bench, which is how some of us ended up awarding ourselves.
What is a letterman in sports?
A letterman, or letterwinner, is an athlete who earned a school's varsity letter by meeting the team's standard for a season. A four-year letterman earned it every year of high school. The unofficial version goes to whoever talked the most through all four.
