Respect Your Elder Millennial - Funny 40th Birthday Shirt

Got online in 1998 by unplugging the kitchen phone and sitting through thirty seconds of screeching. Lost a two-hour game demo at 94 percent because somebody picked up the extension to call the dentist. Kept the free-trial disc that came in the mail and used it as a coaster for a decade. Turned 40 a few years back and still gets introduced at work as one of the young ones. A funny elder millennial shirt for anyone with a 1998 email address and a 2026 lower back. Seniority was earned one busy signal at a time.
THE FINE PRINT
Three rows, three inks. Respect your in slanted aqua brush script, ELDER MILLENNIAL in tall hot-pink capitals running nearly the full width, and I SURVIVED DIAL-UP small and yellow underneath. A worn crackle runs through all three rows, which seems fair.

What age is an elder millennial?
There is no official cutoff, but millennials are usually counted as born from 1981 to 1996, and elder millennials are the early end of that run, roughly 1981 to 1988. That puts them at about 38 to 45 in 2026. Old enough to remember the house phone, young enough to still get asked to fix the printer.
Why did dial up modems make noise?
A modem sent data over a phone line built for voices, so it had to turn the data into sound. The screech was the two modems testing the line and agreeing on a speed, a handshake that usually took 15 to 30 seconds, and the speaker stayed on during it so you could hear whether the call went through. Most people who heard it every night can still do the impression.
What is a xennial?
Xennial is the informal name for people born around 1977 to 1983, on the line between Gen X and millennials: an analog childhood and a digital adulthood. The word was coined in the mid-2010s and caught on around 2017. Most of them still know their childhood landline number by heart.
